Net Neutrality Advocates In Charge Of Obama Team Review of FCC

Take that Michael Powell! mwahahahaha! Obama picks Susan Crawford and Kevin Werbach to review the FCC for the Obama transition team. And while I’m not familiar with Werbach, I’ve read a lot of Crawford’s papers while researching Network Neutrality issues. She is the BOMB. I used to read her blog, too. This is making me feel super confident in Obama’s handling of an issue I really care about, and uber-proud of my vote. Obama will be protectin’ the interwebs for all us geeks! woohoo!

Motricity Saga Continues: Company Sues Former Top Executive

elfman.jpg“When Steve Elfman, one of Motricity’s highest-ranking executives, left to join Sprint Nextel earlier this year, it appeared to be a bad sign for Motricity, which had just paid $135 million for Elfman’s company, InfoSpace Mobile. But in an interview with us a couple months later, Motricity’s CEO Ryan Wuerch sounded upbeat, and suggested some potential upsides to his departure: “He’s the president at Sprint (NYSE: S), which is a customer.” Sprint was never a good customer, right? “No, it was never a good InfoSpace (NSDQ: INSP) customer, but for Motricity it has been a customer for awhile.”

“Well, that optimism apparently vanished quickly: Just two days after the interview appeared in mocoNews, Motricity sued Elfman, according to the Kansas City Business Journal. The suit alleges that Elfman knew Motricity would only buy the InfoSpace mobile business if he committed to take the job of president and COO and stay for two years after the sale closed.

Personally, I have no opinion on the matter. None whatsoever.

Mac OS X needs built-in scanning

Friday, November 14th, 2008

Mac OS X should have built-in scanning software. It should work with any scanner or all-in-one that you plug in. Just like the built-in print drivers. And a scanner control panel.

Right now the hodge-podge of proprietary apps and drivers from HP, or Canon, or what-have-you aren’t getting it done, and it’s just a mess. I have an HP PSC 2175 all-in-one. This is a few years old, but still a wonderful device. It actually came with an Apple I ordered level years ago. I’ve never had a [mechanical] problem with it.

Now I can’t get OS X to scan with it, no way, no how. HP hasn’t updated their software to make the scanner portion function with Leopard (but Leopard has built-in drivers for the printer side). And the old drivers from Tiger were working until I updated to 10.5.4. Haven’t been able to scan since.

I even used MacPorts to install Xsane and all its dependencies — it kernel panics my Mac every damn time I try to load it. Something about the USB stack it really doesn’t like.

Anyway — that’s my rant. Apple needs to work on scanning in OS X. *sigh*

Colbert hits the nail on head, as usual. Love the part about “Dems refusing to co-operate with Bush, with the exception of [list].” ROFLMAO. This had to be one of my favorite ‘Word’ segments I’ve seen in a long while:

“Can You Fear Me Now?” hahaha

I’m sorry, I just can’t resist. This is too cute/ridiculous. Probably Photoshopped. Nevertheless, LOL.
